Texaco art competition award winners!
Cloghroe N.S. is very proud of our talented sisters, Isabella and Gabriella Croce, who have won top prizes in the 2021 Texaco Children’s Art Competition. Both girls were winners of Special Merit Awards for artworks that final adjudicator, Professor Declan McGonagle said, “demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination”. Keep up the amazing work girls!
Red and White Day!
Cloghroe N.S. was a sea of red and white day, as pupils supported the Cork Camogie team in the All-Ireland Final. Best of luck to all players, especially our past pupil Hannah O'Leary. Up the Rebels!!
A warm welcome to our new Principal
Cloghroe N.S. welcomes Mr. Shane Fennessy to our school. We look forward to many happy years together.
Musical Memories
Excitement is high in school as 4th and 6th classes practise for our virtual school performance of "Musical Memories" incorporating musicals (Aladdin, The Lion King and Mary Poppins) performed in Cloghroe NS in previous years.
Art Project
This collaborative wall mural, incorporating 500 + individualised cubes was inspired by the street artist Ryan Wilson, known as ‘Thank You X’. All pupils in school enjoyed designing their own cubes, and then searching for them in the mural.
A visit from the community Garda
Garda Séan O'Dwyer paid a visit to the senior classes in school this week. He discussed the importance of having a sense of responsibility and respect for the community. He promoted positive behaviours while out and about with friends, and raised the students' awareness to the dangers and consequences of anti-social behaviours. It was a very interesting and informative discussion. Thank you Garda Séan for working to keep everyone safe in our local community.
A Fond Farewell
After almost 41 years working in Cloghroe N.S. it was time to say goodbye to our principal Ms. Emma Dineen on Friday, 26TH March 2021. Emma has dedicated many decades to Cloghroe, both as a teacher and a principal. From her classroom to sports teams to quizzes to musicals and everything in between, Emma has enriched Cloghroe N.S. in so many ways. Children and staff in the school celebrated her retirement in many creative and innovative ways, given the current Covid 19 restrictions.
As a final farewell to Emma, the sun shone as we had a lovely presentation ceremony outdoors in the school yard, culminating with our wonderful pupils performing the school song.
We wish Emma many years of health and happiness on her retirement.
Beir bua agus beannacht.

Learning during Lockdown
Even though the school buildings were closed, learning did not stop in Cloghroe NS. Well done to all the fantastic children , parents and teachers who worked together using digital learning platforms such as Seesaw and Microsoft Teams . Here is a sample of some of the work completed in January and February 2021.
Christmas 2020 in Cloghroe NS
It was a wonderful Christmas in Cloghroe this year, with lots of different activities going on. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, children were unable to do their annual Christmas performances in the Halla. So under the direction of Ms Kelly, our Drama teacher, "Cloghroe Chronicles " was created and produced. Well done to our amazing pupils, starring in our festive film. As we couldn't host our Christmas performances in person this year, we were delighted to showcase our pupil's talents virtually. You can view this film here on the Home page of our school website. Children also enjoyed a fantastic Christmas Wonderland Experience with a visit from Santa, where each child got to chat with Santa, and received some little presents along with having their photo taken. It was thanks to an amazing team of staff, parents and other volunteers that this unforgettable experience was created for the children. The school was buzzing in the run up to Christmas with lots of other activities going on in every classroom, including art and crafts, songs and dances, decorating cookies and enjoying delicious hot chocolate. A Christmas to remember in Cloghroe NS!
Science Week 2020
During Science Week, children in all classes took on the role of scientists participating in a variety of activities and experiments throughout the week, including our daily scientific jokes.
Some of the activities included designing and creating their own boats, testing their seaworthiness by adding passengers…
discovering some strange science in the kitchen, and how weird water really can be…
Children also enjoyed online science shows, including a Zoom call with Dr. Ken Mystery learning about topics including Gravity, Balance and Equilibrium, and an exciting online performance by Professor Baloney from UCC with his virtual “Up in Smoke” Science Show.
