Harvesting our Vegetable Garden
Mr. Keady came into school today to dig up our potatoes. He was a little worried that there would not be any there as it was a very late Spring, and now the weather is very dry. We got a big surprise when we saw that there were lots of potatoes there.
Chalk Art
What fun to do our art with chalk out on the school yard! A sixth class student left a special message as he was leaving Cloghroe school and heading off to secondary school....
A Visitor to our Class
Olan's Dad came in to tell us all about being in the army and what it is like to be a soldier. He told us how the Irish Army is a peace-keeping force, and works with the United Nations to keep people safe.
A Busy Day at Art
Lana's Mum came into school today to make Elf Doors out of clay with us. We flattened the clay, carved out our doors, decorated them and then we painted them. She will take them away and put them in a kiln to dry. Then they will be ready and we can take them home.
Sports Day
Great fun was had by all at our Sports Day in Ballyanly.
Relentless
Sean Underwood, a past pupil from Cloghroe, was part of the Irish team, Relentless, who rowed across the Atlantic in December. He came into school today to tell us all about it. He also came into our class because Mrs. Curtin taught him when he was in Senior Infants!!! He gave us a tee-shirt and Sophie won it in a raffle.
Flat Stanley
IWe played a game of Guess Who with Flat Stanley. We wrote information about ourselves but didn't put our names on it, only our initials.Then we posted Flat Stanley under the door of the other senior infant class. The children had to guess who we were.It was so much fun.
Visiting Junior Infants
We visited Junior Infants today to see their art work. They made their own rooms, some of them even had upstairs. We asked them lots of questions.
Our School Tour
Glorious sunshine, a double-decker bus, Fota Wildlife Park with lots of amazing animals, birds, reptiles and insects, a picnic, the playground and a spin on the Fota train, all the ingredients for a wonderful school tour........
Bug Hunt
Niamh from the Heritage in Schools scheme took us on a bug hunt around the school grounds. We were like scientists, we found lots of different bugs and Niamh helped us to identify them.

A Spring Walk
We went for a lovely early morning Spring walk today. The crows were very busy at their nests. We saw buds, leaves and blossoms and lots of other flowers and plants. We stayed far away from the nettles in our woodland walk!!!
A work in progress......
We are working on large Spring murals in our classrooms. We have been waiting a long time for Spring to finally start!!! Watch this space to see our wonderful murals progress.
Zumba
As part of our Active Schools' Week, we had a Zumba dance class today. It was so much fun dancing to the music. When we were finished, the Zumba teacher, Georgia, surprised us with a little present for everyone. It was so cute.
Active Senior Infants!!!
We did stations at PE today. We played hockey, jumped over hurdles,bounced on a trampoline, rolled on a huge pilates ball, had a beanbag throw, used hula hoops and did skipping. It was so much fun and we were really hot afterwards. We love PE!!!!
Monsters in the Museum comes to Cloghroe
Our School Garden
Mr. Keady came into school today and we went up to the school garden to help him plant some vegetables. We planted potatoes and onions. We will keep an eye on them and watch them grow.
Good Friends in Senior Infants
We are learning all about how to be a good friend. We went into the halla where Mrs. Twomey read us a story about a mouse called Jake who was not being very nice to his friend Billy. Happily everything got sorted and they had lots of fun together. After the story, we got into three groups to discuss what had happened.Later on, we went up to the Astro Turf where we had lots of fun together. We also participated in races. We try really hard to be a good friend.

A Visit to the Glucksman Gallery
Parents, children and teachers had a wonderful experience attending the official launch of the art work by all participants in the 'Monster in the Museum' art project. The gallery was a riot of colour and buzzing with excitement. Chris Judge, who is an Irish children's author, opened the exhibition and read one of his books. Following this, the children got to make their own monsters.
Irish Dancers
Thank you very much for the lovely performance of Irish dancing in the Halla today by the children who attend the classes after school. They were really good, bhí siad ar fheabhas. We also learned how to do the dancing. Go raibh maith agaibh.
Monsters in the Museum
What better place to do art than in an art gallery! We went to the Glucksman Art Gallery in UCC today to an art workshop. The theme was Monsters in the Museum. We made our very own monsters and they will be displayed in the museum next week.Everybody can go to see them. The art exhibition will be launched next Thursday and then will be open to the public for the weekend. We hope you can go see them.
Engineers in the making....
Bernard's Dad came into school today to talk about what engineers do. He told us all about aeroplanes and we tried to find out which paper plane flew the furthest.Then he showed us pictures of some of his work, and explained how roads are made. It is a lot of work.

Engineer's Week
It's Engineer's Week in Cloghroe School. Yesterday at assembly we watched a film called "Dream Big". It was all about engineering. Today we learnt about the centre of gravity by making acrobatic clowns. It was really hard trying to balance the clown.
Magic Maths
Every Friday we go to the library for "Magic Maths". We play lots of games and do different maths activities. Here are some pictures of us busy at work.
Calves in School!!!
Two very cute calves came to visit us in school. We learnt a lot about them, what they like to eat, where they sleep and why they have yellow tags on their ears. We could not believe they were only 7 days old....
Fun on Grandparents' Day
Thank you to all the Grannies and Grandads who came in to school to celebrate International Grandparents' Day. We really enjoyed having you read us some stories and we hope you enjoyed our songs.
More Circus Fun in Aistear
The Circus
It's circus time in Senior Infants with Aistear. This week we have been doing lots of different activities including making our own clowns, threading boards, creating a circus with small world toys,making finger puppets to have our own circus at home, and best of all, being real circus performers. We are learning how to juggle, how to balance how to throw and catch, while we are listening to circus music.....just like real circus clowns..... It is really exciting....
Danny the Superhero
SWe are doing a play called Danny the superhero. We are not sure if he was really a superhero as he made a mess with Mum and Grandad!
Is it Waterproof?
We are scientists in Senior Infants. We did an experiment to see if certain materials are waterproof. We can discover more materials that are waterproof at home....
Soccer
Senior Infants are learning ball handling skills with Brian and John, two soccer coaches from Blarney United Soccer Club. It is great fun.
Elf Magic!!!!
We planted some sweets and they grew into candy canes......must have been the magic dust we sprinkled on them.....

Santa Claus is coming to town.....and he was seen in Cloghroe school today!!!!!!
Dick Whittington
The panto in school today was very entertaining. It was called Dick Whittington. It was very exciting, and also very funny.
Letter to Santa
We wrote to Santa today, asking him what happened to the elves. We posted our letters in our letter box.
Elf in the classroom
Two mischievous little elves came to Senior Infants this week. They told us that they came from Santa's workshop. The mysterious thing about them is that they arrived, frozen solid, in a block of ice......we are trying to find out what happened to them, and wrote a letter to Santa, asking him did he know....
Excitement is building.......
We had our dress rehearsal today. And tomorrow is our performance for all our families and friends. It is so exciting!!!!!

Hallowe'en Fun in Senior Infants
The day started with a Spooky Stroll to school which was so much fun. Next we had a special Hallowe'en Assembly where each class paraded around the hall in their costumes. Later in the day Junior and Senior Infants got together for our annual Hallowe'en party, where we sang and danced the day away...... Happy Hallowe'en everyone....
Exploring Space
Second Class and Senior Infants have been busy learning about Space.The girls and boys of Senior Infants went on an intergalactic mission to Second Class to look at their fantastic projects and learn even more. A Space Visitor
Eli's Mum came to visit us today and did science experiments. We were trying to discover how to launch a rocket. After many attempts, we succeeded......It was so much fun.
Aistear
Adventures in Space
Senior Infants are heading off to space in Aistear this month. Our space ships are constructed, astronauts are ready and waiting.....10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....BLAST OFF!!!!
Rainy Day Fun
Our Woodland Walk
We went for a lovely stroll through our woodland walk. We read a story and sang some songs in our "outdoor Classroom". We saw lots of different trees and found nuts and berries. We saw a young oak tree that had grown from an acorn!!! And we discovered evidence that we have squirrels in the woods as they left some broken acorns on the ground...... super detectives in Cloghroe school.....
Up Cork
Everyone wore red to school today to wish the Cork camogie team the very best of luck in the All-Ireland final on Sunday. Corcaigh abú!!!
Our School Vegetable Garden
We went to visit our school vegetable garden today. There were lots of onions, beetroot, spinach, kale and other vegetables. There was also some fruit. Unfortunately, the blackbirds ate most of our apples, so we only have two!!! We saw some cabbage butterflies, some caterpillars, bees and other insects. Thank you Mr. Keady.
Settling into school
We are all very happy to be back in school after a lovely summer, and looking forward to lots of learning and fun in Senior Infants!!!
