Junior Infant tour to Rumley's Farm - 17/06/19
The Junior Infant tour to Rumley's Farm was a great day out for all involved. It started off with a very exciting trip on a double-decker bus and included a tractor ride, seeing animals of all sorts, feeding some animals, a ride on the zip wire and lots of time to play in the indoor and outdoor play areas. The children loved every minute of their first school tour!
Sports Day in Ballyanly
The boys and girls in Junior Infants loved their first Sports Day run by the Parents Association on Friday last. They had great fun taking part in the obstacle course, sack races, potato and spoon races, parachute games and many more activities.
Friendship Week
8/04/19 - 12/04/19
This week we celebrated Friendship week by trying our best to smile at everyone and to be kind to everyone. We also linked up with 5th class and did some lovely activities with them. We also had a 'Friendship breakfast' in the hall with the entire school and Peter Stringer came to talk to us all about the importance of healthy eating and being kind to one another.
Aistear - Construction
For the past few weeks the children have been exploring the theme of 'Construction' in Aistear. This involved learning about building houses, plumbing, electrics, interior design and much more. They also made their own houses using recycled materials and got to show them off to the other Junior Infants and the Senior Infant classes.
Mindful Walk
Junior Infants enjoyed the beautiful weather as they took a mindful walk to the memory garden. At the garden, they listened to and saw beauty all around them - beauty we often miss when we are too busy to notice!
FUNdamental movement training for Junior Infants
Colm from 'Cork Moves Infants FUNdamental Program' took the Junior Infant classes for P.E. today and will do so every Friday for the next few weeks. The boys and girls absolutely loved the lesson that involved lots of fun movements and games. They are looking forward to next week's lesson already!
World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on Thursday 21st of March this year. To mark this special occasion the boys and girls in our school have deliberately worn odd or mismatched socks to celebrate difference and equality.
Stories read by 2nd class
The boys and girls from 2nd class have visited a few times in the past few weeks to read some of their favourite books. This is great for both classes as the Junior Infants love listening to stories and the 2nd class children have a new audience for their great reading!
St. Patrick's Day celebrations
We dressed up in all things green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We also went to the hall to watch some of the older boys and girls dancing in a céilí. After their performance they taught us how to do some simple Irish dancing moves and we all got a chance to practice them and perform them with music.
Aistear - The Farm

This week in Aistear we explored the theme of 'The Farm'. The children made and painted a tractor, made farm-themed jigsaws, got dressed up for the farm in role play and built lots of farm buildings and sheds using construction. The children had great fun learning about the farm and are looking forward to learning more in the coming weeks.
Aistear - The Hospital

This week the boys and girls learned all about 'The Hospital' in Aistear. They explored the different aspects of a hospital through role play, construction, painting and junk art work. They have learned a lot this week and really enjoyed it!
Aistear - The Doctor
14/01/19 - 18/01/19
This week for Aistear the children explored the theme of 'The Doctor'. They learned about all of the different things that doctors do and had fun at the various stations, especially in role play! They also shared their stories of visits to the doctor. Each child helped to make and paint an ambulance to use for role play in Aistear next week.
Letters to Santa
Today we posted letters to Santa to remind him of the lovely things we are hoping to get for Christmas. Only 4 more sleeps!!
A Surprise Visitor - Santa!!
Santa came to visit us in school today!! He told us all that we are being great boys and girls and that he will be so busy delivering all of our presents next week! He also gave us a lollipop as we were being so good!
A Christmas Treat!!
We were so lucky to have the 2nd class children helping us to do some really fun, Christmas-themed activities this week. We designed and ate Christmas cookies, played with glittery play dough, coloured pictures and listened to stories read by the 2nd class children. Most importantly, we made reindeer food which we will sprinkle in the garden on Christmas Eve to guide the reindeer to our homes!
Aistear - The Restaurant
10/12/'18 - 14/12/'18
This week we learned more about The Restaurant and the people who work in it. We acted it out in the role play area, built restaurants in construction, made and ate a lovely fruit salad and made giant pieces of fruit using collage in the art area. We really enjoyed this week...especially eating the fruit salad!!
School Skipathon
Mark from SKIPnROPE came to teach us about skipping today. We learned how to perform 3 different types of jumps and had great fun doing it!
A visit from a travelling theatre!!
The West Midlands Theatre Group came to our school yesterday and performed a great show for us! It was so funny and some of us even got a chance to go onto the stage and get involved in the performance!
It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas....
We performed in front of the whole school today. It was magical! We can't wait until tomorrow, when we will perform for our parents!!!
Aistear - The Pizzeria

This week in Aistear the children learned all about The Pizzeria. In the role play area they learned all about ordering food and running a kitchen. In the construction area they built their own pizzerias. The children used play dough to make pizzas and covered them with their favourite toppings and at the last area they made their own pizzas using pitta breads and went up to the staff room to watch them going into the oven.
Halloween Party
Junior Infants had great fun dressing up for Halloween. They had a Halloween disco with the Senior Infants and enjoyed playing in Aistear while dressed up in their brilliant costumes.

This week in Aistear the children explored the theme of Halloween and had great fun doing it. They built haunted houses at the construction station, played trick or treat at the role play station, made skeletons and magic wands in art and made all sort of things including potions, spiders and bats using playdough.
Maths Week
This week is 'Maths Week' and so the Junior Infant children went on a trail to try to find lots of different shapes and numbers on the school yard.
Autumn Walk
This week we explored the school grounds for signs of autumn. The children found lots of different leaves, ladybirds, mushrooms and other things and enjoyed using the clipboards to assist in marking their findings.

This week the children further explored the theme of 'The Home'. This was done through stories and discussions as well as through role play, construction, colouring pictures of houses and building them using play dough.

This week in Junior Infants the children started Aistear. They really enjoyed it and have started exploring the theme of 'The Home' through role play, construction, small world and creative writing.
Teddy Bears' Picnic
Today the Junior Infant children brought their favourite Teddy Bears to school and we took them outside to have a picnic and to show them around the school. We even took them up to the woodland walk to see if we would find any other teddy bears having a picnic!
First week of Junior Infants
We have had a great first week in Junior Infants! We have had so much fun playing and learning lots of new things. We have also made lots of great new friends!
First Day at School!
The boys and girls in Junior Infants had their first day today! The children played games, had fun on the yard, listened to stories being read and made new friends. Here's to a great year ahead!
