Farewell Junior Infants

Today our Junior Infants moved into Senior Infants. We miss them already! Its been a fantastic year and a great privilege to play a small role in your children's lives. Thanks for all your support, kind words, cards and gifts during the year. Have a wonderful summer. See you all on August 30th.

Science experiment - Magnetism

Today we learned all about magnets and had lots of fun discovering whether things in our classroom are magnetic or not.

Budding Authors in 5th class

Junior Infants had a visit from 5th class today. They shared with us the books they had written and illustrated. They put huge work into the project. The books were very age appropriate and each one contained a lovely lesson for the infants.

Parachute Fun
23/6/'17

We had great fun with the parachute today during PE.

Gardening
20/6/'17

Mr. Keady was in school today working in the garden. He invited all of Junior Infants up to harvest the potatoes we planted earlier in the year. It was very exciting to see them coming out of the ground! Tonights dinner is sorted!! We also saw cabbage, lettuce, onions, rhubarb, apple trees and a very impressive crop of strawberries.

Sports Day
16/6/'17

What an amazing day we had on Friday in Ballyanly for our sports day. We were kept busy all day long with loads of different games and an incredible obstacle course. However the highlight of the day was the ice-cream van!! Special thanks to all the parents who put so much work into organising and running it. Looking forward to next year already!

Happy Fathers Day

Happy Fathers Day to all the hard working dads out there!

School Tour
12/6/'17

We had a lovely day on Rumleys Farm. We met loads of animals, played in the indoor and outdoor playgrounds. We had great fun in the sandpit and really enjoyed the tractor ride. Although we were back by 1.30, we were exhausted!!

A visit from First Class

This week the boys and girls from first class came to read to the Junior Infant children. This was a great experience for all of the children as the older boys and girls were able to show off their fantastic reading skills and the Junior Infant children were able to answer and ask questions about the books.

Aistear Week 4
22/5/'17

It is free play this week so we are free to choose what we want to play with.

Aistear: The Market - Week 3

This week the children have introduced clothing and shoe stalls to their already busy market. They are also working on being fashion designers and exploring the theme through 'Small World' play.

We are busy in The Market this week. We have food stalls, a pet shop, a book shop and a toy shop. In addition we are making toys from play dough, designing clothes, playing a shopping board game and creating amazing things in construction.

10/05/2017

The Market - Week 2

This week we are exploring the market even further. The role play area now includes toy, pet and book stalls. As well as this, they are making lots of different things in the play dough area and learning about shopping and turn taking with a 'Shopping List' game.

Aistear - The Market

We have moved on to the theme of The Market and the children are focusing on the food market this week. They are exploring it through role play and construction and they are also painting market scenes and designing their own shopping bags.

Active School Week
7/4/'17

We had a great end to our Active School Week. The staff and pupils played football together on the astroturf this morning, followed by our daily exercises on the yard.

Assembly
7/4/'17

We were lucky enough to see some Irish dancing this morning. Two of our own pupils danced first. They are just back from dancing for The Pope in Rome. Then we had some special visitors from America who will be competing in The World Championships in Dublin over Easter. They were Katie and Grace. Nieces to our very own Mrs. Lynch.

Active Schools Week

What fun we had today in the Halla when all the children in Junior and Senior Infants, and  First and Second classes  got together to exercise for Active Schools week. We will do it every day this week, and hope we can do it outside in the fresh air.

Aistear
3/4/'17

Its free play this week so we are free to choose from all the Aistear materials.

Active Schools Week
3/4/'17

We had three individual workouts today. A great start to the week!

Plenty of fun during P.E. today. We are getting ready for Active Schools Week next week. We will be wearing our tracksuits and getting active everyday.

Spring flowers
31/3/'17

We painted beautiful Spring tulips this morning.

Assembly

During assembly today we saw 1st class perform songs from the musical Annie. They will be taking part in Cór Fhéile na Scol in City Hall on Tuesday evening. Best of luck!

Aistear - 29/3/'17

The children are having great fun working as Estate Agents and are doing great work constructing rooms and houses from junk art materials.

Aistear
28/3/'17

Aistear this week is based in the Estate Agents. We are buying and selling as well as continuing our construction.

John Spillane

We were lucky enough today to enjoy a traditional music session with local singer and song writer John Spillane. The older classes both sang and played with him. It was a very enjoyable session although it became a little too much for a few of us at the end as you can see from one of the pictures!

Nature Walk
27/3/'17

We took advantage of the beautiful weather to get outside on a Spring Nature Walk. With clip board in hand we spotted lots of signs of Spring as well as lots of animals. Some children even spotted a fox!!

A trip to the school garden

We visited the school garden today and Mr Keady helped us to plant ppotatoes and we also planted the onions that we have been growing in our classroom for the past few weeks.

Table of the Week
24/3/'17

Well done to the yellow table this week.

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day mums and grannies. We made some flowers for you. They are not perfect but they are made with love!

Planting Potatoes
24/3/'17

Today we planted potatoes with Mr. Keady. He dug the hole and added the fertiliser before we all got a turn to put a potato in the ground. We also planted the onions that we have been growing in class.

Spring walk - 24/03/2017

We made the most of the beautiful spring weather this morning by getting out on a lovely spring walk. The children looked for all of the signs of spring and had great fun ticking those that they saw on a worksheet on their clipboards.

Aistear
21/3/'17

We are still on the construction site. This week we are focusing on the inside of our house. Electrics, plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms, floors and painting all need to be completed. We are under serious pressure as it is going up for sale next week!
Also under construction are our cardboard box houses.

Junior Infants

Welcome Junior Infants

Welcome to our new Junior Infants. We are very busy already!

Our Buddy Bench

The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. We use the buddy bench as a visual tool to help instill much needed lifelong social skills.
If your child does not have anyone to play with, they simply sit on the bench and children from their class are asked to invite them to play. Our sixth class sheriffs monitor the buddy bench and help us spread the message of inclusion and kindness!
As you can see, the buddy bench is proving extremely popular as a resting place. In time, with the help of our sheriffs, the children will understand that the buddy bench is only to be used when they are in need of a friend.
