Anti-Bullying Workshop
Mr. Pat Courtney, an experienced teacher, educationalist and facilitator presented pupils, teachers and parents in Cloghroe N S. with most interesting and informative workshops on Wed 30th Sept.
Mr Courtney collaborated with The Dept of Ed and Science in the development of the Stay Safe and Cool School programmes. He has also worked as a facilitator with the PDST(Professional Development Service for Teachers).
During the pupil workshops Pat used a wide range of engaging methodologies to help pupils identify what bullying is, how and when to seek help and provided them with robust strategies for coping with cyber bullying.
After school, the 2hour workshop for teachers was most informative. Pat's wealth of experience and depth of knowledge was very evident from the start. He presented teachers with the theory and definitions around bullying but crucially, he provided teachers with practical strategies to deal with bullying in class and on yard.
Teachers learned how to probe and investigate cases in order to alleviate any stress on victims of bullying and also to equip the perpetrators with the appropriate skills for their own personal and social development. Teachers learned the importance of a whole school approach and the importance of analysing the situation closely , before action is taken.
A good attendance by parents , in the evening received an informative talk on the same topic.
This one day workshop was most informative and helpful for pupils and adults concerned. A big thank you to our very supportive Parents Association who financed all workshops for the betterment of our school community. Míle Buíochas.
