The Digestive System.
Pupils have been working on identifying and explaining the five stages of digestion this week. This culminated in an experiment illustrating the journey of food.
Science Week.
Fifth class were visited by the Designer Minds group. Pupils used agar petri dishes and cotton buds to test their hands for bacteria both before and after using anti bacterial gel. After a week of growth in a dark warm place we are fascinated with the results! Pupils also observed different types of bacteria including tuberculosis and streptococcus under the microscope.
Project Work.
Over the past number of weeks we have been developing our presentation skills. We created our own PowerPoint presentations to support our research.
Happy Halloween!!
Our Collaborative Art Project- The Mona Lisa
In History class we have been learning about the famous artist, master craftsman and inventor, Leonardo Da Vinci. Together as a class we pieced together one of his most famous works of art entitled the Mona Lisa.
The Solar System
Fifth Class and Senior Infants did outdoor art together today in the glorious autumnal sunshine. Both classes had learnt all about the solar system in their classrooms and they drew pictures of it with chalk out on the school yard. Fifth Class taught Senior Infants lots of different facts and Senior Infants taught them new things too.
Maths Week.
Pupils completed a maths trail around the school. Thinking and talking mathematically we placed emphasis on the journey through a problem rather than just the answer.
Marshmallow Challenge - Build a Tower, Build a Team!
Fifth class have been working on their problem solving skills and have enjoyed working collaboratively. Teams were given the task to build the tallest free standing structure in eighteen minutes given a limited amount of materials. This led to some interesting discussions. We feel we have gelled well as a class. We would especially like to welcome our three new students, Sophie Mulcahy, Tara Brandenburg and Evie Gunter.
Our STEM Challenge - Create a Balloon Powered Car!
Building a balloon powered car provided opportunities for investigation, team work and developed design skills. We even challenged our friends to a race!
