Our Junior Entrepreneur Sales day!
We have been very busy over the past few weeks hand making our products for sale. We were all broken up into various teams including production, marketing, finance, sales and public relations. Every one played their part based on individual skills and talents. This culminated in a very successful day over all!
Business Talk
On the 13th of April, Kevin Curran from the Enterprise Board came to speak to us about the businesses he has facilitated in the past. We had an opportunity to present our ideas to him and he advised us accordingly on how to make our business a success. He advised us to value our time in the costing of our products. He gave us many helpful tips with regards to our marketing and how to perform market research. We learned a lot and we are very grateful to him for giving of his time to help us.

J.E.P.
Running over a 12 to 16 week period during the school year, JEP (Junior Entrepreneur Programme) nurtures creativity, independence and problem-solving among pupils of all abilities, with every aspect of the Programme seamlessly blending into the primary school curriculum. JEP doesn't interrupt your child's education – it enhances it. The children of fifth class learned all about costing, profit and loss, target market and much, much more. The children, very bravely and confidently, presented their product to our four dragons - Seán Barry of BodyFuelz , Willie Hackett, Noreen O'Connor and our mini dragon, Tom O'Riordan.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Bhaineamar taitneamh as a bheith ag rince Balla Luimnigh agus ag canadh "the cup song" as Gaeilge. Ghlacamar páirt ar tráth na gceist. Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste, Bain triail as!
Grandparents Day
We made cards for our grandparents for Grandparents Day during Catholic Schools Week 2018. We also wrote prayers for our grandparents and we wrote them in our cards. They were delighted to receive them.
Teacher and Artist Partnership Programme
Miss McAuliffe's fifth class was very lucky to have won the opportunity to have a visiting artist to the classroom for a few weeks. Kathy D'Arcy is our artist and she is a poet and a writer. We have had lots of fun over the last few weeks awakening and exploring our creative selves. We start the class with a short relaxing meditation. We then engage in unconscious writing which is a new concept for us. After this we discuss our topic and then we draw our ideas on a large sheet of paper. Finally, we put pen to paper and let our creative juices flow!
Glucksman Visit
Fifth class attended a workshop in the Glucksman recently as part of the "Monsters in the Museum" exhibition. Inspired by the theme of both green campus and monsters, pupils constructed their own monsters out of recyclable material and worked on collage. Our art work is now on display in the museum. We are very proud of our efforts!
Engineers week
It's Christmas!!!!
5th Class performed their Christmas play: "Christmas, why do we do that?" for the whole school on Wednesday December 20th. After weeks of collaborative practice between the 3 classes they produced an outstanding play highlighting the traditions of Christmas time. The play explored the history of Christmas Cards, Christmas Trees, Santa and the birth of Jesus while also including some humour in the form of TV advertisements for Dominos, Haribo and Star Wars among many more. The play concluded with lovely renditions of Silent Night, This Christmas and Feliz Navidad. The show was a resounding success.
Busy Times in 5th Class
While the month of December is a very busy time in schools preparing for Christmas plays, 5th class still managed time for other fun activities including art, science and projects.
Young Scientists
Here in Fifth class we are curious about the world around us. We have been working scientifically to test certain theories. We have enjoyed observing, predicting, investigating and discussing our results.

Healthy mind, healthy body.

Spike Ball
Fifth class, under the mentor-ship of transition year students from BCS, have been learning the skills of Spike Ball. Spike Ball is similar to volley ball. It is an inclusive game and most importantly great fun! Our training will culminate in a blitz to be held in BCS in a few weeks.
