Spikeball
5th Class students from Cloghroe NS were chosen to take part in a Transition Year Spikeball project organised by pupils from Ballincollig Community School in association with Vollyeball Ireland. Children were given 6 one hour lessons which allowed us to take part in a day long Spikeball blitz in BCS involving over 140 children from Scoil Eoin and Scoil Barra from Ballincollig at the end of October. Girls from BCS visited the school every Thursday to coach the skills of Spikeball which is a variation of Volleyball. Our pupils loved learning and playing the game and thoroughly enjoyed the day's blitz. Children were broken into teams of 6/7 and played in rotation in a fun and friendly environment. The children had designed posters representing their team name and these were displayed on the wall of the hall throughout the day. One Cloghroe team 'The Spikinators' were victorious in both the Spikeball competition and the Poster Competition. Well done to all who participated!!
Trip to County Hall
On Tuesday 7th of October children from 5th class visited the County Hall at the end of the Carrigrohane 'Straight' Road for a musical performance and tour of the building. Children were treated to a fantastic musical performance from the Lillibullero Trio with instruments such as the recorder, baroque cello and harpsicord. A trip up to the 17th floor of the County Hall followed with fantastic views of the city and county. The tour concluded with a visit to the Council Chambers where important meetings take place. The children were given a detailed explanation of the workings of the chamber and given the opportunity to take part in an interesting debate.
Science Experiments
Children in 5th class were busy building circuits and testing for conductors and insulators around the classroom. Plenty of bright sparks in 5th class!!!
