4th class have been getting all arty recently!
We made silhouette cut out paintings and a whole school of fish and did some more workshops as part of the City Council/Glucksman project.
We were Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Glucksmann and City Council project.
4th class were delighted to be invited to take part in an Arts and Environment project organised by the City Council and the Glucksman Gallery. We are currently completing a series of art tutorials to help us learn new drawing techniques. We are also discussing and completing worksheets about our ideas for how the city could be developed to become a safer, better and healthier and place for us all and thinking about how we could lead on climate action. Our finished worksheets will be submitted to the City Council and photos of our art work will be sent to the Glucksman and may be part of an exhibition there. Here we are learning about perspective and vanishing points.
Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine
Each week, since Seachtain na Gaeilge, we have awarded a cup to the pupil who has put in the best effort at Gaeilge. These are the winners so far. Comhghairdeas leo! Rinne siad go léir sár-iarracht!
Busy Bees!
4th Class pupils have been very busy in recent weeks. In Science we explored the Solar System and built rockets. In History we researched World War II and the Stone Age. We even created art while lying on the floor, to truly experience Cave Art. We explored Daffodils by William Wordworths in conjunction with National Poetry Day and used it as inspiration for our art work. Time flies in 4th Class when you are having so much fun!!
Planets galore!
Mrs Hockey and Mrs Mullane's class have been studying astronomy in SESE and our classroom is looking very colourful as a result of all the art work they have created based on this theme.
Creative SPACE!
Ms.O’Shea’s 4th Class pupils are currently exhibiting their art work in our Creative ‘Space’! This is part of our Creative Schools programme. The children have been exploring the solar system and astronomy in recent science lessons and used this as inspiration for their art work. The varied exhibition includes painting and constructions made from bottle tops, fruit, lego, clay and much more. Their creations really are ‘out of this world’!

Lockdown Learning
|
Even though our school buildings have had to stay closed since Christmas, fourth class have been exploring and creating and learning all sorts of new things. Our pupils have been learning from instructional videos, live classes, and internet resources as well as from their text books and from activities around their own homes. They have learned to use Teams and Seesaw as platforms for sharing learning and keeping in touch with each other and with their teachers. |
Christmas Countdown
4th class have been very busy as we continue to countdown to Christmas! We have been creating Christmas arts and crafts, learning Christmas songs, starring in a Christmas movie and enjoyed the most magical Santa experience in our school woods. Out teachers also treated us to hot chocolates and cookies... It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
Super Scientists!
Science Week
The children had so much fun experimenting with scientist, Dr. Ken. The ancient Greeks believed that everything was made of and explained by four elements - earth, water, air, and fire. We joined Dr Ken as he explored this and uncovered some strange science in the kitchen. We found out how weird water really can be.
Shaping up!
We had great fun exploring and making new shapes such as a rhombus and a parallelogram in recent maths lessons. We have also been learning about lines and angles.
Genius Hour!
4th class really enjoyed creating and listening to their peers describe their favourite topic during their Genius Hour project presentations. We learned a lot about baking, animals, famous people in history such as Christa McAuliffe and Maire Curie and music. We were also impressed by PowerPoint projects based on WW II and computer games and much more.
Oíche Shamhna
A great day was had by all in Rang a Ceathair, and indeed in Cloghroe NS, for our Spooky Stroll to School on Friday last, 23rd of October. The children's imagination and creativity (and parents' hard work) is clearly evident in their awesome attire!
The children also let their creative side shine through by making their very own Halloween Pinatas to use at their family Halloween parties. Even though there will be no Trick or Treating this year, there will be plenty of fun had this Oíche Shamhna!

Red Day for the Rebel Double!
We had a wonderful day in 4th Class today celebrating 'Red Day' in aid of MaryMount Hospice. Thank you all so much for your donations. Firstly we explored the history of the G.A.A. We then celebrated 30 years since Cork won the Double and watched the highlights from the matches. We designed our own Cork jersey and crest. Finally, we interviewed Cork Football superstar, Mr.Kelly. We even got to see his All Ireland medal. We had a great day! Up the Rebels 🔴⚪
Mindful Moments
We are really enjoying using the "Weaving Wellbeing" programme since beginning 4th Class. We have found rainbow moments in our days, created positive emotion potions and are enjoying meditating outside.
Water Filteration
We are budding scientists in 4th class. We have been exploring water filtration systems. Thankfully, due to advanced filtration systems in Ireland we don't have to drink water like this! We now appreciate the clean, purified water that we drink each day.
Budding Artists
We have been busy in 4th Class expressing ourselves through our art! We got stuck straight into doing 'Junk Art', using what we could find in our recycling bins to make different modes of transport. We learned about Aboriginal art and recreated some of our own. From history we heard about the legend of the Children of Lir and stenciled and sponge painted representations of the swans. We became familiar with one of the world's greatest artists - Pablo Picasso, and using his method of cubism and bold colours, we were inspired to draw some interesting portraits! We had great fun exploring with the three primary colours in our colour wheels and are working on completing are Collaborative Rainbow.
"Labhair í agus tiocfaidh sí"
Taking advantage of the dry weather, we took the conversation outside, with our comhrá beirte.
