Splendid Science!
Each 4th class got the chance to visit the Lifetime Lab and partake in a fun and interactive workshop on the topic of forces. We were able to design and construct cars and parachutes!
Engineers Week
It was a busy week for our budding engineers. We had visits from two parents representing two different disciplines of engineering - software and electronic engineering. We'd like to give a special thank you to Kevin Kelliher (Lorna's dad!) and John Mollaghan (Lucy and Maggie's dad!). The children asked plenty of interesting questions, it certainly seems we have some budding engineers in our midst.
The children were also busy with their own engineering experiments. They were tasked with several creative projects - making structures and bridges that could bear the most weight, reach the tallest freestanding height etc. They ran some tests on friction using ramps and using different surface types as well as examining the concept of surface area and seeing how that related to air resistance in making our own paper helicopters.

Pancakes
This month we are focusing on procedural writing and so we saw Pancake Tuesday as a chance write a pancake recipe. We of course then had to taste some!!
Super Soup Makers!
We had the opportunity to visit our school garden and harvest the leeks that we planted last year. We then decided to put these leeks to fantastic use and make potato and leek soup. Thank you to Mr Keady for all his gardening knowledge and Mrs Ryan for her culinary skills.
Knowledgeable Knitters
The buzz in fourth class has recently been swopped for the clicking of knitting needles as some of our kind local ladies are giving their time to guide both students and teachers of 4th class to learn how to knit. Thank you very much to Marie, Celia, Theresa and Rose
Fun with Forces
The fourth classes had an enjoyable time predicting and experimenting what would happen when a table was placed on balloons. Hilarity ensued when they also had the opportunity to test the balloon strength once they stood on the table. Hopefully they've still retained the scientific reasoning for the results!
Oobleck
Things got messy in 4th class when we made oobleck.
Our Robots
We were busy building and constructing our robots from whatever we could find at home! We had so much fun working together in creating our masterpieces! There are definitely some builders, engineers, architects and artists in our midst!
