Papier Mache Creations.
Over the last three weeks Mrs. O'Connor's class have been busy creating papier mache bowls. Firstly we had to tear strips of newspaper and glue them onto our bowls with our homemade glue. Having allowed the bowls to dry completely we then decorated and varnished them. We think you will agree that they look amazing!

Ms Brosnan's 4th class performed the 3 little pigs as Gaeilge for the 3 junior infant classes on Monday. They have only been learning this for a few days and knew the book and their lines off by heart. What amazing work and dedication right up to the end of the year. Juniors learned some new words and were chanting "ni thusa mo chara" right back at the Mac tire.

He showed us an exciting Powerpoint complete with sound effects. We also saw many interesting photographs of the Canny brothers in their Irish Volunteers uniforms, their 1916 medals and photos of the hurling teams which they were involved with in Dublin.
We got an art attack in May!!!
Art and creativity have blossomed in Mrs. O'Connor's class during the month of May. We created wonderful underwater collages to coincide with our recent visit to the Lifetime Lab. We learnt about the famous Dutch painter Pieter Cornelis Mandriaan. He is known the world over for his unique form of art - cubism. We experimented with our own brand of cubism which we are quite proud of! We also acknowledged and celebrated friendships which have developed in the class since September. We know these friendships will last for many years to come.
Our once in a lifetime visit as VIPs to Dublin's GPO
A huge congratulations to Lucy Keohane who won this years An Post national handwriting competition. Lucy was presented with a certificate of excellence in handwriting on Monday 9th May 2016 by the GPO Manager along with the new president of the INTO. Lucy won the prize of a class visit to Dublin's splendid GPO. We had amazing day in Dublin receiving a guided tour of the GPO, a VIP lunch upstairs in staff headquarters for all the class, a 3D video of events of 1916 a walking tour around Dublin visiting Daniel O'Connell statue, viewing the spire, looking at John Gray and Jim Larkin statues, onto Trinity College and to finish off viewing bullet holes left behind from 1916 on St Stephan's green entrance. Science, history and fun! What more could you hope for on a sunny friday?
4th classes visited Cork's lifetime lab on Friday last to learn all about marine life and try out some water based science experiments. We walked from the lifetime lab down the mardyke walk into Fitzgerald's park and visited the Cork Public Museum with wide ranging collections, items from abandoned Ogham standing stones to War of Independence memorabilia. The classes loved the underground bunker with sound effects. Afterwards the class had some time to enjoy the beautiful new playground in Fitzgerald's park finishing off the day nicely in the basking sunshine.
Budding Engineers in 4th Class
There is a building boom happening in Cloghroe school at the moment as Joe O'Driscoll and Liam Kelliher demonstrated this week. They constructed this beautiful Stone Age fort over a two day period while on lunch break. Well done boys! We are all very proud of you!
Congratulations LUCY KEOHANE who won the An Post Handwriting Competition. Lucy is the overall national winner in category 3 (third and forth class) nationwide. We are so proud of you Lucy.
The nationwide schools’ competition challenges school children of all ages to test their handwriting skills. Over 65,000 children from all over Ireland meet the challenge annually, making the handwriting competition a huge success.
Proclamation Day Celebrations
Today was a very exciting day in school. We celebrated Proclamation Day by dressing up in clothes similar to those that would have been worn by children back in 1916. We raised our new Irish Flag and sang the national anthem Amhrán na bhFiann. We also had great fun performing our Irish song "Tóg Amach Mé" at Assembly. This is the Irish language version of Nathan Carter's song "Wagon Wheel"
4th class girls performed the beautiful Ribbon Dance for the 1916 celebrations
Guinness book of Records
We were studying length in Maths class so what better way to bring maths to life than drawing the world's tallest and shortest person. We converted their heights from feet into meters and centimeters and drew their actual size. Other groups did things like dog's longest ears and even world's longest ear hair eewwww!!!
have a look at our photos we did a great job.

Chuc Mung Nam Moi
Happy Chinese/Vietnamese New year to everyone today February 8th 2016. This is the year of the Monkey. We have learned a lot about the Vietnamese new year and their traditional coin giving. Lucy and Tuan brought in traditional Vietnamese dress wear, along with a "Non La" the famous straw hat. It's lovely to learn about different cultures. Lune is the French word for Moon, therefore the lunar new year is the moon's new year where people rid houses of bad luck by cleaning for 3 days before "Tut" (new year). Families eat to excess and nobody works for the following 3 days of celebrations.
Who knew magnets were such fun
4th class have been learning about magnets. We studied how opposite poles attract and how like poles repel. We found out that there are magnets in compasses and how magnetic fields are invisible. You can, however, see a magnetic field when you use iron fillings on a page. Have a look at our photos of animals and people. We used iron fillings to create moustaches and beards and other fun things.
Did you know there is more iron in Branflakes than Cornflakes, science doesn't lie. Just have a look at the experiements to prove it. Enjoy, we sure did!

Happy Halloween
We are currently busy with our pumpkins. We have white washed them and we are now going to paint them as a variety of different animals and characters.
Water Filtration
Last week in Science we investigated how soil and mud sink to the bottom of water. We had great fun shaking bottles of dirty water as hard as we could and watching it clear slowly as the dirt sank to the bottom.
This week we took the same water and filtered it through layers of sand, gravel, stones, rice and pasta. Not good enough to drink but the results were pretty impressive!!!
