Robot constructions
During September, 4th class read an excerpt from the book "The Coming of the Iron Man". We were then inspired to create robots from recyclable materials. We created these in small groups and our creative sides came out in our designing and making. Here are the finished products.
Trees in our school environment
On Wednesday 22nd October 4th class had a visit from a tree expert named Michael Burke. During our walk around the school Mr. Burke informed the children of the names of the variety of trees found around the school environment. He also gave the children some fascinating facts about the trees. Aswell as this, he gave the children lots of facts and information about other weeds and plants. We are very lucky in Cloghroe N.S. to be surrounded by such a wealth of trees and plants.
Happy Feet
Fourth
class under the tuition of Anna from Ultra Flex Studios, have been very busy
over the last few weeks. They have been working on some exciting new
choreography. With Christmas approaching students are proud to show case their
high energy routine, performed to popular Christmas songs.
Artists at work
During the month of November, students were inspired by an American artist Andy Warhol. Students created their own "Pop Art" using their own self portrait. Students also experimented with marbling inks, based on the principal that oil and water do not mix. Pupils were amazed with the colourful effects
Christmas Carol Singing
On Tuesday
9th December, 4th class children preformed a variety of
Christmas carols and songs in O’ Leary’s Centra in Tower. The children put a lot of time and effort
into practicing these songs and they sang beautifully on the night.
Constructing bridges
4th class put their engineering hats on recently in order to design and make some bridges. A range of recyclable materials and other art materials were used.
Green Day
On 13th March we had a Green Day in school to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge. The school was awash with green clothing, hats and wigs! We learned the steps to "The Walls of Limerick" and the whole school held a "Céilí Mór" where we danced together and had lots of fun. We also put lots of effort into speaking "as Gaeilge" for Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Trip to the Lifetime Lab
At the end of April, 4th class pupils got to visit the Lifetime Lab in order to take part in a Science workshop based on Forces. The children explored how moving air can make things move, how magnets can make things move by pushing or pulling magnetic materials and how objects can be moved by using pulleys. They also explored air resistance and got the chance to design and make some parachutes. The workshop also contained many other hands-on activities in which the children got to put into practice what they had learned about the topic. Students also got to have a picnic outside and enjoyed some time in the well-equipped playground at the Lifetime Lab. It was a very enjoyable and educational day.
Active Schools
4th class pupils got to take part in lots of physical activity during Active Schools Week. As well as their regular PE lesson, 4th class had another chance to go swimming, spent a day in CIT doing various sporting and physical activities as part of Project Spraoi and also had the chance to take part in various activity stations and an obstacle course on the school yard.
Project Spraoi
During the year many children from 4th class took part in a pilot programme called Project Spraoi. As part of the research for this, the children kept food diaries and completed a number of physical activities to test their fitness. Pupils were rewarded with an activity day in CIT on Tuesday 16th May as a thank you for taking part in the project. Activities on the day included stations, games, dance and orienteering. An enjoyable day was had by all!
