Biodiversity fun
A huge thank you to the boys and girls of 5th and 6th classes who gave pupils a fabulous experience of biodiversity in the main halla last week. Comhghairdeas you were outstanding and we had so much fun learning all about biodiversity. We learned that all species are interconnected. They depend on one another. Animals eat plants. The plants need healthy soil to grow. Fungi help decompose organisms to fertilize the soil. Bees and other insects carry pollen from one plant to another, which enables the plants to reproduce. Biodiversity is important to people in many ways. Plants, for instance, help humans by giving off oxygen. They also provide food, shade, construction material, medicines, and fiber for clothing and paper. The root system of plants helps prevent flooding. Plants, fungi, and animals such as worms keep soil fertile and water clean.

Science Experiment
Today we tried to mix various liquids together while carrying out a science experiment. We discovered that some liquids mix together while other liquids will not. We mixed food colouring with milk. The fat in the milk prevented them from mixing. Then we tried to mix food colouring with washing up liquid. The oil in the washing up liquid prevented them from mixing. Although the liquids did not mix together, it created a beautiful pattern!
