Sports Day 2019
First Class Hurling/Camogie Blitz
On Monday 10th June First Class had their last training session of the year with coach Timmy. The children got the chance to put all the skills they had learned during the year into practice by taking part in a class blitz. Well done to all and thanks to Timmy for training us during the year.
Beauty And The Beast
First Class are very excited about the upcoming performance of Beauty and the Beast. They have been very busy doing artwork to decorate the entrance to the hall. They were very lucky today to be allowed a sneak preview of the show. We're looking forward to seeing it in full next week.
1st Class School Tour - The Glen Resource Centre May 16th
A very excited 1st Class set off for their tour to the Glen Resource Centre this morning. On arrival the class were split into groups and then the activities started. These included roller racers, bungee trampoline, bouncy castle, snow tubing, moonwalkers and the obstacle course. With so many fun activities, it was hard to pick a favourite! A great day was had by all!
Active Schools Week
We took part in a fitness session with Rachel Crusher from Schools Fitness Ireland. We did some dancing, aerobics, jumping and stretching. It was great exercise and lots of fun.
Heritage in Schools - Woodland Walk
Niamh from the Heritage in Schools programme came to visit us today. She told us a lot about trees and how important they are to us and the environment. Next we went to investigate some of the trees growing in our woodland walk. We gathered leaves from trees including hazel, silver birch, beech and sycamore.
Friendship Week
We had a great time for friendship week and took part in many fun activities including secret buddies, being read to by our partner Buddy Class (3rd Class) and a friendship breakfast in the Halla brought to us by Peter Stringer!
Showtime!!
First Class put on a fantastic performance in City Hall last night. They were the first to perform out of eight schools and went home very tired but extremely happy and proud!
Cór Fhéile
First Class have been very busy rehearsing for their performance in the City Hall on Thursday night 4th April. We're looking forward to it and hope you all enjoy it!

Engineers week
For Engineers Week First Class were very lucky to be visited by some real life Engineers! They shared with the children what it was like to work as an Engineer and what their daily work involved. The children were treated to a wide range of activities including Powerpoints, Videos Of Engineering Projects, Question Time, Fun Engineering Worksheets and Experiments. Thanks again to our visiting Engineers and we're sure you have inspired a future generation of Engineers!
Pancake/Shrove Tuesday
First Class had great fun today learning how to make pancakes and then sampling the results! Nutella proved to be the most popular topping followed closely by lemon and sugar.
Skipathon
First Class took part in a skipping workshop with Mark McCabe this week. They got to practise their skipping and learned some new skills.
Baubles
On Wednesday 12th December 1st class performed their Christmas play "Baubles" for their families. They put on an excellent performance and they were tired but very proud after.
Old King Cole
West Midlands Theatre Company came to school to perform the pantomime 'Old King Cole'. The children really enjoyed the lively and fun performance.
Christmas Play
We have been very busy in First Class over the last few weeks rehearsing our Christmas Play 'Baubles'. We look forward to putting it on for the parents on Wednesday 12th December. We hope you all enjoy it!
Science Time!
First class got took part in some Science investigations and experiments recently.
Our first experiment involved us designing some boats out of marla. The challenge was to get the boat to float. Some boats managed to float while some did not but we were not discouraged by this! We then tested the strength of the boats by adding cubes to them.
Our second investigation involved looking at the effect of body heat on a piece on chocolate!

Halloween
Happy Halloween from all in First Class!
Maths Trail
First Class had great fun doing a Maths trail for Maths Week. They were busy counting, measuring and finding shapes in their classroom, school building and out on yard.
G.A.A. Coaching
First Class have been busy over the last few weeks developing their hurling/camogie skills. Thanks to Timmy from Inniscarra G.A.A. for training us. We really appreciate it and have learnt lots!
Transport Survey
First Class have been learning about the topic of transport through the subjects of History, Science and Geography. This week we went outside to complete a traffic survey. We recorded the different modes of transport that passed the school.
